Giving Help

For some in Chester County, life has not changed drastically since January 20. For others, the future looks very dark and very scary. Most of us are somewhere in between. Caring for those around us and helping them in their time of need is what unites us as a community and, fundamentally, makes us human.

Below is a list of resources that would welcome help in whatever form you can give it – time, money, expertise, resources, or just spreading the word about their work. Take a few minutes and find a few to which you can contribute.

General Support and Volunteerism

Elected Officials and Democratic Organizations

Central Chester County Democrats – we are always looking for volunteers to help us in our mission to support our communities by helping to elect representatives who will fight for us in government

Housing, Food, and Clothing Insecurity

Human Needs Network | Chester County, PA – covering a broad range of issues in Chester County, from health, housing, and human services, to suicide and emotional crisis interventions
Habitat for Humanity (Chesco) – Offers opportunities for volunteering and housing support – no construction experience necessary.
Cradles to Crayons – their mission is to provide essentials children need for a safe and healthy childhood
Chester County Food Bank – 55% of food insecure households in Chester County are ineligible for government food assistance. Their mission is to mobilize and educate the community to ensure equitable access to nutritious and familiar food
Housing Authority of Chester County – their mission is to provide, manage and develop quality affordable housing for individuals and families
Housing Partnership of Chester County – a private non-profit organization working to improve housing and the quality of life in Chester County

LGBTQ+

LGBT Equality Alliance of Chester County – fosters inclusivity, well-being, and social justice for the LGBTQ+ community through advocacy and provision of safe, supportive spaces

Special Needs Education and Services

ARC of Chester County – dedicated advocates for individuals with disabilities and their families
A Day in Our Shoes – information and resources so that parents can make more informed decisions regarding your child with disabilities and their IEP
Chester County Intermediate Unit – supports diverse learners with services for the 12 school districts in Chester County
Chester County Government: Resources for Children with Special Needs – this is a full page of other resources available in Chester County for children with special needs. Not all of these are able to accept help, but many are.

Immigration

There are many organizations that provide help to the immigrant community in Chester County. While not all of these are located in Chesco, they all provide support here. Some organizations are listed multiple times if they provide multiple services.
